One year ago, the devastating Hill Country floods changed the lives of families across Central Texas. As emergency responders worked to rescue survivors and restore communities, another need quickly emerged: the need for grief support.
At the Christi Center, we believe that healing doesn’t end when the disaster response does. Grief has no timeline, and for many flood survivors, anniversaries can reopen wounds that never fully healed.
In the days following the floods, the Christi Center responded by providing free grief support and created an online Flood Resources Guide to help survivors navigate grief, trauma, and recovery, while connecting them with trusted local organizations. Our team also collaborated with emergency management agencies, first responders, and nonprofit partners to ensure those affected knew they did not have to face their grief alone.
Today, our commitment to the community continues.
Whether someone lost a family member, a friend, a home filled with memories, or simply the sense of security they once knew, grief can surface in unexpected ways. Anniversaries often bring renewed emotions, making this an important time to acknowledge loss and reach out for support.
Throughout the year, the Christi Center continues to offer:
- Free, ongoing peer-based grief support groups for adults, children, and teens.
- Compassionate intake support to help individuals find the services that best meet their needs.
- Healing workshops that provide education and practical tools for navigating grief.
- Community education and professional training to equip organizations and service providers with grief-informed practices.
As we reflect on the one-year anniversary of the Hill Country floods, we also honor the resilience of our community. We have witnessed neighbors helping neighbors, volunteers serving the community, and survivors finding strength through connection. Healing is rarely linear, but no one should have to walk the journey alone.
If you or someone you know continues to struggle with grief related to the floods or any loss, the Christi Center is here for you. Our services remain free because we believe that everyone deserves access to hope, healing, and community, regardless of their circumstances.
Together, we remember those we lost, honor the resilience of those who remain, and continue building a community where no one has to grieve alone.
