Win a Tree to Honor Your Loved One

Beautiful park

We’re pleased to announce that although the Memorial Tree Grove reservation deadline has passed, a generous donor has donated a tree to this year’s grove so that a family in need may honor their loved one in this way.

To enter to win this final tree and be a part of the 2013 Christi Center Memorial Tree Grove at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock, please LEAVE A COMMENT on THIS blog post telling us why planting a memorial tree would be a meaningful way for you to honor your loved one.

You can also post this on:

At noon tomorrow (Friday, August 23rd), we’ll do a random drawing and select one tree recipient.  Good Luck!

Our daughter Jennifer Lynn Greybeck, born October 14, 1978, left us March 21, 2012 due to diabetes. Jennifer had an unmatched passion for the game of soccer. She was an awesome goal keeper and soccer player. All four years at PHS she lettered in four sports and was the only girl goal keeper to this day to make All State goal keeper. She played at Settlers Park throughout her time here, always giving 100%. She had a contagious smile and would ALWAYS give to others before thinking of herself. She would always be there for others whenever they needed her to play or just needed some assistance in some way. She would coach others and volunteered herself free of charge in goal keeping and soccer skills just to help others in whatever way she could. We feel God has called her home to help coach the angels. She is deeply loved and missed. A tree would resemble her as a person, STRONG, BEAUTIFUL, AND ALWAYS TRYING TO GROW OTHERS. She loved playing soccer at Setters Park and she would love being remembered by a tree in the Memorial Tree Grove.

    1. I hope that this tree is dedicated in Jennifer’s memory. I knew Jennifer since we were little girls, playing softball in Pflugerville, and had the honor to play soccer with her for years afterward at school and on our club team in Round Rock during high school. She was a spectacular athlete and had an even more remarkable heart and personality. She was one of the sweetest, most sincere, not to mention hard-working, people I have ever known and although she was a year younger than me, she was a role model to me both on and off the field. I will remember and miss her always.

      Sincerely,

      Cara Leverett

  3. We would be honored if Kooper could be the recipient of the tree. Kooper was our 2 and a half year old son who suddenly passed away on Father’s Day. We are still waiting for the cultures to come back, but he passed away from a very fast/aggressive bacterial infection. There were no symptoms and we never even knew what was coming. I put him down for his afternoon nap after a great morning at church and family lunch and he never woke up. He was my happy go lucky child. Nothing could upset him as he was always smiling and giggling. He loved the outdoors and he loved animals. He and his big brother were best of friends. I think this tree would be a great way to remember Kooper because he always loved the outdoors. I also believe it would be great for his big brother too. To watch a tree planted and grow big and tall to honor his best friend would be a great reminder of the love he and his brother shared.

  4. I would love to have a memorial tree to honor my sister. My sister passed away last June of ovarian cancer at the age of 36. The irony in this is that she was also an oncology nurse at Texas Oncology. She was my only sister and my best friend, and I miss her dearly. She lived life to the fullest and had run 2 half-marathons earlier in the year. Every year we also ran the relay marathon, Beach to Bay, in Corpus Christi. We belly danced together, did Zumba together and just had fun. She was my little cheerleader cheering me on to do more. She lived a courageous life until the end. She thought of others before herself and even made sure that her patients didn’t know that she was dying and that she had cancer. She didn’t want them to feel sad and still wanted to protect them. She left a deep hole in our hearts. She left an impact on so many people: her family, her friends, her patients, her co-workers, her belly dancing dancers, her rogue running friends, and others that knew her. She was a true giver, and I would love to honor her with a memorial tree.

  5. MY BROTHER AND MY BEST GIRL-FRIEND!
My older brother, Curt, left us in May of 1983. He is buried on a hill near beautiful Texas Oaks in Houston. He was 29 when he decided to leave this life – and I, his baby and only sister, was 23 when I heard the devastating and life altering news.
Three years later, my best friend (maid/matron of honors) since 7th grade lost her life at the age of 26 to what we now know was Lupus. She is buried back in Pittsburgh where I grew up.
My life changed forever in the 80’s….Two loved ones gone so suddenly and so soon. I became lost, lonely and haunted by their demise. I also became an alcoholic due to the fact that I could not accept my spiraling emotions – only wanting to blur them. What if I could have helped I thought – again and again…..
I raised my family in the Round Rock area for 35 years….my children and friends children spent many a day at Settlers Park. I am now recovering and finding peace. My branches are sprouting new growth and I would love to visit this special tree to realize that my journey – just like an apple seed – can do the same for so many others….
I would love this tree be dedicated to both Curt and Suzie’s memory – to grow tall with branches spreading out to show that family, friendship and love CAN endure thru difficult times….with each passing season – new growth – new family and support can make us feel totally and Godly grateful for each day we have here together!

  6. Tuesday August 27th will be our son Eli Rodriguez second Birthday in Heaven .We are having him his Birthday party Sunday August 25th @ Old Settlers Park & this would be the perfect Birthday present. He is an identical twin, he was 23 yrs old & this was a sudden death in his sleep that was a result of a head injury that he had 6 years prior. He graduated from Stony Point & then Paul Mitchell School, he worked at the H.E.B plus on 79. We feel that shock is what keeps us alive & as every parent who has lost a child knows, we are having a very difficult time, not only the missing of that child but the emptiness & hurt that you feel to see your other two kids struggling without their brother here & I know this would bring a smile to his twin brother & sister. we would Luv to have this memorial tree that we could go picnic under because there are alot of family memories at Old settlers, he grew up going there with us & then on his own with his fiance and of course with the H.E.B Store Picnics…I Thank you for this opportunity & it would be a great Blessing to us all to have this Forever Memorial Tree..

  7. The first glimpse of my first grand child via sonogram, looked as if she was waving hello to the world. She had a healthy, strong time of development in the womb and seemed ready to join us right near the time of delivery. Fate had a different plan and Star’s arrival was as a stillborn infant. Everything about her looked perfect; her face reflected a deep peaceful sleep from which she would never awaken. She is part of our family and we each carry her memory in our hearts and daily lives. The dedication of a memorial tree would help to bring peace to my daughter and our family. It is because of the beauty of nature and it’s life cycles that we have been able to manage the pain and loss of Star. As the branches of the tree wave gently in the breeze, we would be reminded of Star’s wave and connection with the universe.

  8. Families, we are so grateful to you for taking the time to share stories about your loved ones. We wish that we had a tree to give away for each and every one of these special angels. We will try to expand our donated tree program next year, but for this year we held a random drawing and Carlotta and Jim Greyback were selected for a tree in honor of their daughter, Jennifer.

Thank you for telling us about your loved ones. Please know that all of them will be in our hearts on Tree Grove Dedication Day on October 19th.

  9. It would mean a lot to myself as well as my family to be able to plant a tree in memory of my brother. Michael left us at the early age of 19, even though the days continue to go by the devastation does not. He was a self taught musician who taught himself to play the guitar, piano, and drums. Thankfully there are 3 videos we have of him singing and playing the guitar. Anyone who came across Michael instantly loved him, his laughter and smile were infectious, and his giving nature will always be unmatched. I would like to purchase a tree, however it is not in my means to do so. I’d love to have a serene place to visit and reflect on all the precious memories of his life.
